Some More Setting Stuff
In no particular order, just getting ideas out there.
The Demon Sea, formerly known as the Godsea or the Gaian Sea, is a large inland sea that separates the Sunlands from the northern domains. It was once known as the "cradle of empires" for the powerful nations that emerged in it, once-vast slaver empires that seemed poised to conquer the entire continent, only kept in check by geographical barriers and the powers of the far east. But when the Eightfold united, the Gaian empires faced their first serious challenge. The Eightfold triumphed only by detonating a magical superweapon of unprecedented power at the center of the Gaian Sea, inciting a great cataclysm that felled empires overnight and transformed the entire region into a roiling cauldron of storms and monsters. Now the remnants of once great empires eke out an existence as raiders as the wails of spurned gods echo across the blood-red sea of shattered islands.
The largest remaining landmass in the Demon Sea is ruled by a trinity of three embodied gods based on Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades, with a lot of Hadestown influence in the idea of classical gods as post apocalyptic warlords. Most of the island itself is unlivable so the sky god's followers live on mountains and floating islands, the sea god followers live on huge rafts and outer islands, and the death god followers live underground. At the south shore the imperial remnants are trying to encroach into the Sunlands. The Eightfold kind of fucked up when they blew it up because while they did get rid of the Gaian empires, who were potentially major rivals, they also blocked off their main method of reaching the Sunlands and the Saurian Empire.
There's still a lot of magical and mundane treasure left in the Demon Sea because of how rich it used to be back when it was kicking around the other guys, so despite the danger adventurers from the Sunlands and the Trade Baronies still try to get in to loot it. In addition, the Eightfold sends scouting parties in to try and find a way through, and the Baronies and Sunlands also hire mercenaries to go in and try to push back the imperial remnants who keep bothering them where they border the sea.
Zondar is not the largest city of the Sunlands, but it has the largest arena: the world-famous Zondarena, touted as the ultimate test of a warrior's mettle. The Zondarena is an engineering marvel, capable of being filled with water or intricate labyrinths for mock naval battles or dungeon crawls. The city is dotted with smaller arenas, forming the "chain of Zondar", the path from rookie gladiator to legend. It is said that Zondar is the only city in the Sunlands with so many arenas that a would-be gladiatorial champion could rise from a nobody to regionwide renown without ever leaving the city's walls, though most of its esteemed warriors do frequently tour the other City-States. The Zondarena, in addition to stadium seating and private boxes, boasts a tavern built into the arena itself, the famous Red Window Inn, built into the walls of the arena itself, whose alchemically reinforced ironglass windows are often smeared with blood and viscera from slain gladiators and beasts. The Window employs an army of bartenders, waiters, brewers, cooks, janitors, and bouncers to maintain order and satisfy its drunken, rowdy clientele.
Culturally, since the Sunlands are super cosmopolitan and have a lot of ports and traders, you can get pretty much any kind of beverage there, but also since I'm kind of doing it as fantasy africa I'm thinking the overall most popular drink and the one produced the most in the region itself is egyptian-style beer.
