Current Projects And Ideas
Avarizia: Already posted about on this blog, see a few posts back for more details. Basically a science-fantasy space opera setting where the players play merchants, diplomats, scouts, and space marines from nomadic space-Venice looking for profit. Currently leaning towards making it a Stars Without Number hack.
Journeys Of The Sorcerers: I was one of those people who actually liked the parts in early Mage: The Ascension additions about mad scientists and wizards flying around space in magic ships, so I figured I might as well make a game that’s entirely about that. In JotS, you play as wizard pirates who fly around the Otherside, an endless spirit world made from humanity’s collective unconscious. Plunder Oz, evade the Magonian Navy, sail the Super-Sargasso, and generally make a nuisance of yourself. Has a semi-complete list of classes/playbooks/wizard types I’ve decided on that I’ll probably post soon.
First Edition Rogue Trader Retroclone: Self-explanatory, but I’m not sure how close I want to adhere to RT’s setup. I definitely want the basic concept and atmosphere, but I might not frame it as specifically “this is a Rogue Trader WarhamThing”. Might also overlap with Avarizia.
Norumbega: My current main fantasy setting, definitely more than a little inspired by Warhammer Fantasy in terms of a focus on picaresque adventures in the fantasy renaissance. I’ve got most of the world and its eras mapped out, with game ideas for various settings: landsknechts, ninjas, pirates, gangsters in recently conquered fantasy Venice, Bloodborne-esque hunters exploring a post-magipocalyptic world of eternal night, and more. The pirate hook list I posted, and some upcoming pirate stuff, were written mostly for Tides Of Plunder, the pirate game.
Cataclysm Imminent: An alternate version of Norumbega where magic was mostly sealed for most of recorded history, only for it to burst forth in one giant cataclysm during a time period equivalent to the 1970s. Cold War tech vs monsters and magic. Think Kong: Skull Island or the secret boss fights in Peace Walker where Big Boss fights dragons.
Unchosen: A rare few are chosen by the gods to serve as their champions, questing across the land and wielding glorious magical powers. You do not play as one of those people. Instead, you play someone who managed to get together magical abilities from a much less reputable route: theft, mutation, bizarre experiments, demonic pacts, and so on.
Tungsten Katana: There are a LOT of cyberpunk games out there, but surprisingly few that are a good fit for the over the top martial arts action in Gunnm/Alita (especially last order) and Metal Gear Rising, which are two of my favorite pieces of cyberpunk media. So instead of trying to fit Panzer Kunst and Space Karate and electromagnetic ninjas into Eclipse Phase or Shadowrun, I’m feeling like it might be a good idea to make a setting specifically for that kind of action. Currently looking at a few systems for this- Double Cross, Panic At The Dojo, and some others- and might write it up as a setting for one of those and post it here.
